Introduction to Ujjayi Pranayama

Guide to Ujjayi Breath

Ujjayi breath, also known as victorious breath, is a pranayama technique commonly practiced in yoga. With its roots in ancient wisdom, this breath technique is known for its calming and soothing effects on both the mind and body. To practice Ujjayi breath, start by sitting in a comfortable position, with your eyes closed and spine lengthened. Inhale deeply through your nose, feeling the breath travel down the back of your throat. As you exhale, slightly constrict the muscles at the back of your throat, creating a gentle oceanic sound. The Ujjayi breath is often accompanied by a gentle expansion of the belly on the inhale and a contraction of the belly on the exhale, aiding in deeper relaxation. Regular practice of Ujjayi breath can help bring focus, reduce stress, and promote a sense of inner tranquility.
